Heavy Families: Masses and Mixings*

چکیده
We use the infrared fixed point structure of the SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1) renormalization group equations to derive predictions for the masses and mixings of heavy families in perturbatively unifiable grand unified theories. We show that the sum of the squares of all quark (or lepton) masses must be less than (355 GeV)2. This implies that theories with NH heavy families must have at least one new quark and one new lepton of mass less than 250/a GeV. We -also find that the Cabibbo mixings and isospin splittings of heavy quarks tend to be small.

Radiatively Induced Neutrino Masses and Large Higgs-Neutrino Couplings in the Standard Model with Majorana Fields
The Higgs sector of the Standard Model (SM) with one right-handed neutrino per family is systematically analyzed. In a model with intergenerational independent mixings between families, we can account for very light neutrinos acquiring Majorana masses radiatively at the first electroweak loop level. We also find that in such a scenario the Higgs coupling to the light–heavy neutrinos and to the ...
متن کاملLepton mass matrices from a quark-lepton analogy
We study the implications of having a similarity between quark and lepton mixing in the Dirac sector of the Standard Model plus the right-handed neutrino. This enable us to describe all masses and mixings in the Dirac sector in terms of only five parameters: three mass scales mb, mτ and mt, one parameter λ describing all the mixings, and a CP violating phase in the quark sector. Then, from expe...
متن کاملFermion masses and mixings in gauge theories
The recent evidence for neutrino oscillations stimulate us to discuss again the problem of fermion masses and mixings in gauge theories. In the standard model, several forms for quark mass matrices are equivalent. They become ansatze within most extensions of the standard model, where also relations between quark and lepton sectors may hold. In a seesaw framework, these relations can constrain ...
متن کاملNatural fermion mass hierarchy and mixings in family unification
We present an SU(9) model of family unification with three light chiral families, and a natural hierarchy of charged fermion masses and mixings. The existence of singlet right handed neutrions with masses about two orders of magnitude smaller than the GUT scale, as needed to understand the light neutrinos masses via the seesaw mechanism, is compelling in our model.
متن کاملLepton masses and mixings in orbifold models with three Higgs families
We analyse the phenomenological viability of heterotic Z3 orbifolds with two Wilson lines, which naturally predict three supersymmetric families of matter and Higgs fields. Given that these models can accommodate realistic scenarios for the quark sector avoiding potentially dangerous flavour-changing neutral currents, we now address the leptonic sector, finding that viable orbifold configuratio...
